Abstract
A uranium alloy comprises: .Cr.0.1-0.6 atomic per cent, .Nb.0.1-1.2 atomic per cent, the balance, apart from incidental impurities, being uranium The alloy may be heat treated in the range 775-900 DEG C. followed by continuous cooling at the rate of 100-250 DEG C. per minute. This process may be conducted by salt bath heating followed by air cooling, the salt left on the surface of the billet being sufficient to prevent serious oxidation. The alloy may be made using pure uranium, a 3-6% master alloy of U-Cr for the Cr content and Nb may be added as the metal or as a master alloy. Specification 862,492 is referred to.
