A wooden-flanged beam has a sinuous web comprising at least two interconnected layers of plywood 2, 2a, whose top and bottom edges are received in grooves 4a in the flanges. An intermediate sheet, of plastic material (as shown), chip-board or fibre-board may be used; the layers may be glued, pinned or stapled together, and the web may be glued into the grooves 4a, or held in by the flanges being bolted together (Fig. 6 not shown).
