Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula C6F5(CH2)nCOX wherein C6F5 is pentafluorophenyl, n is 0, 1 or 2, X is Cl, -OR or -NR12, R is C1- 3 alkyl and R1 is H or C1- 3 alkyl. Specifically claimed are pentafluoro-phenylacetamide, -benzamide, -phenyl-b -propionamide and their N:N-diethyl derivatives; ethyl pentafluorophenyl acetate; and pentafluorobenzoyl, -phenylacetyl and -phenyl-b -propionyl chlorides. The following methods are given for the preparation of the compounds of the invention:-(1) esters-reaction of C6F5 (CH2)n CO2H with excess ROH, e.g. n=1 or 2, R=Et and a catalyst such as fluosulphonic acid is used; (2) acid chlorides-reaction of C6F5(CH2)n CO2H with PCl5; (3) amides-(a) reaction of C6F5(CH2)nCOCl with HNR12, or (b) when n=1 and R1=H, partial acid hydrolysis of C6F5CH2CN.
