Abstract

Cellulosic textile materials are dyed or printed with a reactive dye, e.g. a dyestuff containing a mono- or di-halogeno-2:3:5-triazinyl group or a vinyl sulphone group, and are simultaneously or subsequently impregnated with a solution containing 2-20% by weight of 1 : 3-dimethylol-, or 1 : 3-di(methoxymethyl)-, 4 : 5-dihydroxyimidazolidone-2, in the presence of an acid or acid-reacting catalyst, the so-dyed or-printed and impregnated material being finally dried, and heat-cured at 200 DEG -400 DEG F. for a period of 30-600 seconds, where-by wash- and wear-effects, such as improved crease recovery, dimentional stability and chlorine resistance, are imported to the textile without affecting the light-fastners of the dyeings or prints. Mechanical effects, such as schreinering, embossing or glazing, may also be imported to the textile, after partial dyeing but before heat-curing. Examples are given.
