974,853. Magnetic compositions. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 13, 1963 [Aug. 16, 1962], No. 31952/63. Heading H1H. A polycrystalline ferrite body having a porosity of less than 1% and a resistivity greater than 100 ohm cm. has the composition: Ni a .Zn b Cu c .Co d .Fe (2-x-y) .(Al, Cr, Mn) y .O z where: The ferrite body may be a magnetomechanical converter element (in which case b=0) or a magnetic recording head (in which case a < 0.5 and d=0). The ferrite is formed by presintering the starting material at a temperature not exceeding 950‹ C., grinding, compressing at 1 ton per square inch and sintering at 1230‹ C. The Specification gives examples of ferrites of different compositions, made by sintering for different times in varying atmospheres, and the magnetic properties of the products.
