964,318. Collars for personal wear. B. LIGHT. Nov. 17, 1960 [Dec. 22, 1959], No. 43507/59. Heading A3V. A collar interlining has fabric sections secured adjacent the ends of the cape portion and formed with spaced slits in which are threaded flexible stiffening strips. As shown a section 1 of preshrunk textile fabric coated on one side with polythene has spaced slots 13 or pairs of slots (not shown) through which a flexible stiffening strip 15 is threaded. Alternative forms of strip are shown. Fabric reinforcements 71 coated on one side with polythene are spot welded to the cape portion 45 of an interlining 41 and the sections 1 are spot welded to the reinforcements with their edges 5 and 11 aligned with the edge 75 of the reinforcements and the edge 81 of the interlining respectively. The interlining 41 of which the neck band portion has one side coated with polythene is then stitched to both plies of the collar and the collar is turned. A line of top stitching passes through the tip 17 of the stiffener 15 and the sections 1. The collar is then pressed in a fusing press to fuse the reinforcements 71 to the interlining, the sections 1 to the reinforcements and the neck band portion 43 of the interlining to the collar. The strip 15 if formed of thermoplastic material is simultaneously banded to the adjacent layers. In an alternative method, omitting the spot welding, the fusion is carried out before the interlining is attached to the collar. The polythene coatings may be omitted when threads, e.g. celluloseacetate, fusible under heat and pressure or when treated with a solvent, are incorporated in the reinforcement 71 and sections 1.
