Abstract

950,438. Rotary-scythe mowers. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd. Jan. 8, 1963 [Jan. 31, 1962], No. 3744/62. Heading A1F. In a rotary-scythe mower of the type having a horizontal rotary disc 1 with blades 5 pivoted to its underside to swing about vertical axes on meeting obstructions, each blade is preceded by a skid-plate 17 having a lower surface 18 which extends downwardly and rearwardly from the disc in the direction of rotation and terminates at or above the level of the rotary blade. As shown, the skidplate is formed integrally with a hollow bush 6 extending through the disc 1 and forming a bearing for the blade 5, the blade being clamped by a nut 11, bolt 9 and washer 12 to a tube 7 which is slightly longer than the bush 6 so that blade assembly can rotate freely therein. The skid-plate is threaded and is secured to the disc 1 by a bolt 22. The blade is stepped downwardly at 14 and has a turned-up rear edge 16.
