Abstract

955,131. Mixing rolls. B. F. GOODRICH CO. Jan. 30, 1963 [Feb. 8, 1962], No. 3851/63. Heading B1C. Apparatus for mixing elastomeric material comprises at least one pair of mixing rolls 11, 12 which may rotate at unequal speeds, a pair of drawing rollers 21, 23 located above the mixing rolls for receiving the band of material from them and returning it to the nip of the mixing rolls, and a shelf 43 interposed in the return path of the band. The band is deposited on the shelf in folds 56 formed by means of guide rollers 40 extending from a carriage member 37 caused to travel back and forth along the mixing rolls by an endless double reversing screw 38. At each end of its travel the member 37 closes a switch 51 or 52 operating a solenoid valve, Fig. 3 (not shown), which admits air to pneumatic cylinders 47, whereby the shelf is moved out of the path of the material; that which has accumulated on it being swept off by the fixed scraper 65 to fall into the nip of the mixing rolls.
