Abstract

948,509. Controlling change-speed gearing. HUMBER Ltd., A. W. WEST, and J. LEWIS. June, 13 1962 [June 14, 1961], No. 21560/61. Heading F2D. In a change speed gear control comprising two or more axially slidable selector rods 11, 14, 17 each having a socket 23, aligned transversely when the rods are in a neutral position, engageable by a gear selector arm 22 on a rotatable and slidable selector shaft 21 parallel to the rods 11, 14, 17, a further set of sockets 34, similarly transversely aligned, is engaged by a locking member 30 having an edge generally arcuate about the shaft 21 with which the member 30 is rotatable, such that each rod other than that selected by the arm 22 is held against sliding movement. The member 30 is slotted at 31 to engage flats 32 on the selector shaft and is positioned radially by a ball 42 to facilitate assembly, the arcuate edge of the member being recessed at 36 to clear the socket of the selected rod and being provided with limit stops 37, 38 which contact the rods or stops 17, 40. The synchro-mesh dog clutches of a four speed gear-box are engaged by selector forks 10 and the reverse gear by a pivoted lever 16, a spring detent preventing unwanted engagement of reverse gear.
