Abstract

947,376. Two-part couplings. CANNON ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 2, 1960 [Feb. 10, 1959], No. 3653/60. Heading H2E. In an electrical connector a metal contact 14, Fig. 6, having three bowed fingers 53, 52, 53 at one end and a conductor 16 attached at the other, e.g. by lugs 37, 41 or a solder cap, is inserted in an aperture 61a, in an insulating block 19, e.g. of nylon, which is formed from strips 26, 27, 28, 29, fixed together with an adhesive and which may be surrounded by a shell 83 or mounted alongside a similar block. The contact is held in the block by a shoulder 48 and spring tongue 43 on the contact-engaging shoulders 64, 70 respectively on the block. Several contacts are mounted in a block to form a connector and this will mate with a similar connector turned through 180 degrees, the contact fingers having their ends 58, 581 bent and bevelled to facilitate engagement with a similar contact in overlying position.
