Abstract
931,874. Cleaning fibrous material. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. March 9, 1962 [March 10, 1961], No. 8903/61. Class 120 (1). Apparatus for cleaning fibrous material comprising a rotary beater and a separation edge adjacent the periphery of the beater has ducts directing currents of air towards the beater at regions preceding and following the separation edge. The beater 13 may be of the sawtooth kind or may be an improved Kirschner beater constructed as a cylinder to which are affixed six lags covered with spikes of the form generally used on Kirschner beaters. Beneath the feed system 12 there are located a wire-covered comb bar 14 and a separation plate 15. Air passing through an inlet 16 guides the fibres into the region between the beater 13 and the plate 15 whilst allowing heavier impurities to be deflected into the trash box 17. Following the plate 15, the fibres are carried into a region 18 of substantially constant cross-section where they are subjected to a further current of air from a duct 20. A stripping means 21 clears fibres from the beater which are then carried along duct 22 to a highspeed airstream cleaner or to a scutcher. Specification 898,369 is referred to.
