Abstract
935,990. Finishing fabrics. D. PERNICK. March 30, 1962 [July 24, 1961], No. 12440/62. Class 42 (2). A machine for converting a tubular fabric into a flat fabric comprises means 10 for advancing a length of flattened tubular fabric T having two longitudinally folded edges E, means 11 to cut along one edge E, and means 12 to receive the flat, longitudinally folded fabric, the means 12 including a ridged portion 29 to open out the folded halves of the fabric and an inclined support 31 to support the unfolded flat fabric. The means 10 comprises rotating rollers 19, 20 (the latter not shown) to feed the fabric T on to a conveyer 13 comprising a number of upwardly inclined belts 24 or a single belt mounted on rollers 22, 23. The means 11 comprises a driven, circular blade 17. The means 12 is positioned beneath the roller 23 and comprises a guide 25 having a slot 27 through which the fabric passes, the ridge 29 opening the fabric and rails 30 directing the cut edges F thereof outwardly. The fabric then passes under the rails 30, down an inclined plate 31 and under a stationary rod 32 having herring-bone like ribs 33 thereon which diverge from the middle in opposite directions to urge each half of the fabric web outwardly. The fabric is taken-up on a roller 34 driven by a roller 38 and provided with an axle 35 the ends of which slide in slots 36 in brackets 37. The rollers 19, 20, the conveyer 13 and the roller 38 are driven in synchronism by the drive means 16 shown. In a modification, Fig. 5, the fabric from a pile P is advanced by a roller 19A co-operating with the roller 22 and the cutting means 11 is located adjacent the conveyer 13.
