Abstract
The invention comprises O-benzoylthiamine disulphide having the structural formula:- <FORM:0922444/IV(a)/1> This compound may be obtained by treating thiamine disulphide with a benzoyl halide or benzoic anhydride in the presence of an acid acceptor such as sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, potassium hydroxide, potassium carbonate or pyridine or by treating O-benzoyl-thiamine with an oxidising agent such as iodine, potassium ferricyanide or hydrogen peroxide at a pH of 10 to 12. It may be extracted from the reactants by means of chloroform or ethyl acetate and after recrystallisation from alcohol has a melting point of 146-147 DEG C.
