Abstract

A process for the production of an aldehyde from an olefin (e.g. a functionalised olefin) is provided. The process comprises reacting the olefin with carbon monoxide and hydrogen and/or a reducing agent in the liquid phase in the presence of a soluble catalyst comprising a Zwitterionic rhodium complex and a bidentate phosphine ligand. The process is suitably carried out on an elevated temperature in the range 70 to 120 DEG C.
