Abstract

926,954. Electric radiators and reflector stoves. S. McDOUGALL. May 12, 1959 [June 27, 1958], No. 20606/58. Addition to 885,919. Classes 39 (3) and 126. [Also in Group XIII] A combined convection and radiation space heater comprises electric, gas or oil heating means arranged in front of a reflector having two or more apertures formed therein above the heating means to permit radiant heat and air to enter a single air heating passage 13 formed behind the reflector. The apertures may comprise louvres, slots or regularly or irregularly shaped holes, or as shown, the reflector may comprise spaced sections 30, 31, 32 overlapping to provide upwardly directed inlets 33, 34 to the air heating passage 13, and a further air inlet aperture 21 near the heated air outlet 19. Electric heating element 35, 36, 37 are located below the apertures 33, 34 and 21. The elements may be located in slots in the reflector. The sides of the air passage 13 may be formed by walls diverging outwardly towards the reflector. The heating elements may comprise gas burners with tubular radiants. Alternatively an oil burner may be situated centrally of the reflector. The apparatus may be adapted as a heater of the panel or portable type and the air flow may be assisted by a fan.
