Abstract
925,982. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems; valves. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. March 13, 1961 [March 15, 1960], No. 9007/61. Class 135. A method of controlling the pressure of oxygen in a manifold 9 for scarfing heads 8 of a thermochemical metal remove apparatus comprises feeding oxygen through a line 22 to a two-stage pressure regulator 1 and then through a line 20 to the manifold, the output from the second stage of the regulator being controlled in accordance with the pressure adjacent the manifold. This latter pressure is fed through lines 28, 30 and 32 to a compensator regulator 2 and controls the flow of oxygen from a line 38 to a line 40 such that the outlet pressure in the line 40 varies inversely as the variations of pressure in line 28. The line 40 leads to a solenoid-operated valve which, when open allows flow through a line 42 to the second stage of the main regulator 1 to control the second stage output. The regulator 2 is also supplied with a constant fluid pressure loading through line 36, pilot regulator 5, and lines 34, 32. Regulators 11, 13 having associated solenoidoperated valves similar to 3 are also provided to control flow of preheat and purging fluid pressure, the outlet of each leads to the line 42. The first stage of the pressure regulator 1 is formed by a diaphragm loaded on one side by fluid pressure fed through a pilot regulator 4 and on the other side by the first stage outlet pressure.
