Abstract

924,911. Two-part couplings. UNITED-CARR FASTENER CORPORATION. Jan. 13, 1961 [March 21, 1960], No. 1601/61. Class 38 (1). An electrical connector comprises an insulating body 11 (Fig. 1) having opposing segmental webs 31, 32 (Fig. 5) extending into a cavity 15 in which is mounted a female contact member 13 (Fig. 2), constrained against longitudinal movement in either direction by arms 21 and 22 of a flattened T-shaped part and a flange 20 bearing against the webs. By rotation through 90 degrees the arms are disengaged from the webs, enabling the contact member to be withdrawn from the cavity. The contact is located angularly in the wholly constrained position, by ridges 27, 28 on a split spring band 24 (Fig. 3) surrounding the stem 23 of the T-shaped part, engaging in grooves 34, 35 in the webs 31, 32. The band is slotted at 30 to allow distortion when rotation of the contact forces its ridges 27, 28 out of or into grooves 34, 35. The male contact member 12 is similarly mounted in cavity 14. Each body 10, 11 may carry a number of contacts.
