Abstract

917,998. Food and liquid containers. LILY CUPS OVERSEAS Ltd. May 23, 1961 [May 27, 1960], No. 18495/61. Class 49. [Also in Group XVII] The lid of a container of a hot drink or soup, a carbonated beverage or a frozen food (Fig. 2) has a vent opening 19, in a recessed portion of the lid, covered by sheet material 20 pervious to vapours but impervious to potable liquids. The lid is of plastic, e.g. polystyrene or polypropylene, and the sheet material is filter paper or other cellulosic material impregnated with a water-repellant capable of withstanding a temperature of up to 200‹ F. or is microporous plastic, details of the material thickness and size of pores being given. The sheet 20 is heatsealed to the lid. The interfitting head and groove of Fig. 2 may be omitted. The lid may be of paper, and the recessed portion be omitted; again (Fig. 7) the lid may be of paperboard seamed to a cylindrical rim 42 which is a friction fit on the outside of the container wall, or the lid may be of disc type, applied to a bead formed in the container wall.
