Abstract
Petroleum fractions are hydrofined by contacting the fraction either wholly or partly in the vapour phase with hydrogen under elevated temperature and pressure and in the presence of a catalyst, characterized in that there is also present a hydrocarbon oil which has a higher final boiling point than the petroleum fraction, and at least part of which remains in the liquid phase in the reactor, and the hydrofined fraction is then separated from at least part of the hydrocarbon oil. Preferably the difference in final boiling points is at least 20 DEG F.
