Abstract
904,514. Breakwaters. NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL. May 15, 1961 [May 16, 1960], No. 17530/61. Class 68 (2). A breakwater comprises a partly submerged structure having a chamber 16 open to the atmosphere bounded by a sea wall 12 disposed for wave incidence and by a vertical substantially unapertured lee wall 13 parallel and coextensive with the sea wall, the sea wall being apertured to connect said chamber 16 with the sea 18 by a plurality of ducts 19. Fig. 16 shows a dual breakwater having perforated outer walls 12, 12<SP>1</SP> forming chambers 16, 16<SP>1</SP> with an intermediate wall 43 whose upper face 44 supports a roadway and/or railway. Where there is a strong tidal flow transversely to the breakwater, the current of water passes through ducts 49 in the intermediate wall 43.
