Abstract

An abrasive article, e.g. a grinding wheel, comprises hollow spheroidal fused abrasive particles in an interstitial bonding matrix. Specified particles are alumina and zirconia whilst the bonding matrix may be organic e.g. phenol-, urea or melamine-formaldehyde resins; epoxy resins, polyester resins, alkyd resins, shellac, glues natural or synthetic rubbers or vulcanized rubber; or inorganic e.g. those derived from frits and/or clays; silicate bonds e.g. sodium silicate, or magnesium oxychloride cements. Fillers e.g. cryolite, magnesia and clay, and non-hollow abrasive grain may also be included.
