Abstract

A hot-dip type rust preventive composition comprises a major proportion of an oil having a viscosity of from 25 to 500 S.U.S. at 210 DEG F., from 1 to 10 weight per cent of a rust preventive agent, and from 1 to 10 weight per cent of a gelling agent consisting of a microcrystalline wax having a melting point from 130 DEG -210 DEG F., and a polyethylene having a molecular weight of from 9,000 to 200,000, the polyethylene being in the proportion of 0,5-5,0 parts per part of microcrystalline wax. Suitable rust preventive agents include fatty acid partial esters of aliphatic polyhydric alcohols and alkali metal and alkaline earth metal salts of high molecular weight petroleum sulphonic acids and of alkyl aryl sulphonic acids; oxidized wax esters, metal xanthates, phenolates, phenol sulphides, naphthenates, organo-phosphates and thiophosphates, vegetable and animal fatty oils, degras, lecithin, water displacing agents, paraffin waxes and metal soaps may also be added.
