Abstract

885,298. Tankers. FAYREN, J. M. M. Feb. 27, 1959 [Feb. 4, 1958], No. 21560/58. Class 113. A tanker has a centrally disposed cargo tank 3 extending longitudinally over the greater portion of the length of the vessel with transverse bulkheads 4 dividing the tank into compartments 5 which are connected to one another (by ducts 6 and branches 6a) to allow free transfer of fluid from any one compartment to any other compartment at all times or at least during loading or unloading of the tank. The vessel comprises an outer hull 1 and an inner hull 2 forming the tank 3, the hulls being braced by web frames 7 and longitudinal members 8a- 8j some of which are apertured but others not so as to provide wing tanks 11 with reserve buoyancy tanks above them, spaces 10 in communication with the sea, and a spare 17 in communication with the tank 3 serving as a vapour and overflow duct. The draught of the external hull decreases from the mid-ship portion towards the bow and stem of the vessel.
