Abstract
873,283. Furnace bricks. HEUER, R. P. Feb. 5, 1960 [Feb. 19, 1959], No. 4186/60. Class 51 (2). A basic refractory brick has a first oxidizable metal plate extending on one lateral face of the brick and co-moulded with the body and a second oxidizable metal extending on an adjacent lateral face and secured to the first plate. A plate 20, Fig. 2, having tabs 22 at the sides and lugs 23 pressed out from the body is co-moulded with basic refractory material 40, Fig. 5, to form a block which is encased in a U-section oxidizable metal plate 37, the flanges 41 of which are welded to the tabs 22 of the co-moulded plate 20. The lugs pressed from the body of the co-moulded plate 20 may be replaced by a U-section channel member welded to the plate 20. In a modification, Fig. 9, two intermediate blocks, 281, 45, one having an oxidizable metal plate 20 co-moulded with it, and both having recesses to engage the arms 44 of a T-shaped hanger 46, are enclosed in a U-shaped metal plate 47 welded to the tabs 22 of the co-moulded plate 20. A plate 43 co-moulded with one of the intermediate blocks may form an internal metal plate in the finished brick.
