Abstract
Pattern compositions suitable for use in the "Lost Wax" casting process, comprise hydrocarbon wax as the major component, e.g. 50-70%, with minor proportions of polyethylene of M.W. not more than 6000, e.g. 5-25%, and a cyclic hydrocarbon synthetic resin plastisizer, e.g. 10-40%. The wax is preferably a high melting-point, e.g. 80-84 DEG C., microcrystalline wax, and/or one or more paraffin or synthetic hydrocarbon waxes such as Fischer Tropsch waxes. The resin may be derived from b -pinene, alkyl styrene or indene, or may be mixtures thereof. In an example the composition comprises 60% microcrystalline wax, 10% polyethylene and 30% b -pinene resin.
