869,052. Ratchet clutches. ETABLISSEMENTS AIME LEDIN. May 21, 1959 [May 21, 1958], No. 17400/59. Class 80 (2). A ratchet clutch, particularly for use in the rear wheel hub of a motor-assisted pedal bicycle or the like, comprises pawls 1 having pivot pins 1<SP>3</SP> engaging loosely in oversize holes 2<SP>3</SP> in a driven hub 2, heels 1<SP>2</SP> on the pawls engaging shoulders 2<SP>2</SP> on the hub when the noses 1<SP>1</SP> of the pawls are engaged by ratchet teeth 3 of a surrounding driving sprocket or the like. When the ratchet clutch overruns, as when the motor drives the bicycle or the like, inclined surfaces 31 at the backs of the teeth 3 alternatively engage the backs of the heels 1<SP>2</SP> and the noses 1<SP>1</SP> of the pawls, which oscillate about their pivot pins 13.
