Abstract

868,401. Airfield lighting beacons. HENSCHEL, W. Sept. 5, 1959, No. 30385/59. Class 75(4). A lighting device especially for use as an airfield marker beacon, comprises a base 21, a transparent outer envelope 44 mounted on the base and enclosing an inner tubular envelope 35 in which is mounted a fluorescent discharge tube 38. The tube 38 is carried in a socket 34 and held in place by a cap 40 at the upper end, which also forms the electric supply means. The base 21 is supported by a downwardly directed tube 24 engaging in a socket 11, screw threaded on to a base 13 which may be the cover-plate of a housing for a transformer. The socket 11 has an annular channel groove 26 forming a weakened portion so that the device will yield on coming into contact with a moving object. The outer envelope may be of coloured plastic.
