Abstract

866,032. Toy projectiles SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTS CO. Oct. 15, 1958 [Nov. 14, 1957], No. 32901/58. Class 9(1). A toy projectile 10 provided with a launching stand 18 comprises a hollow body 12 housing a propulsion unit 14 into which extends release mechanism 16. The body 12 with integral fins 34 may be moulded in nylon or a cellulose derivative such as cellulose acetate butyrate and is provided with a resilient nose 26 secured by a pin. An adapter ring 38 fitted in the base of the body 12 engages interrupted threads on the nozzle 46, which has a groove 62 engaged by inwardly directed lugs of a container 64 for the fuel. The container 64 has longitudinal slots 68 and base openings 70 for the admission of a liquid reactant placed in the body 12. Both the nozzle and the container may be made from cellulose acetate butyrate. The launcher comprises a base 114 rotatable about a pin 128 used to anchor the base to the ground. Between upstanding flanges 116 on the base is pivoted a socket member 106, which receives the reduced end 102 of the peg 16; the member 106 being provided with projections 122, 124, which coact with surfaces 118, 120 between the flanges to limit the pivotal movement of the member 106. A latch 86 pivoted between flanges 88 on the peg 16 engages a flange 94 surrounding the nozzle 46 until released by a pull on a cord 96 extending from the latch through a bore in the peg 16. As fuel, sodium bicarbonate and an acid in grannular form, such as citric or tartaric acid, are placed in the container 64. The hollow body 12 is filled with water and, while held nose downward, connected to the container 64 and nozzle 46. The projectile is then placed on the stand with a reduced end 72, 74 of the peg 16 extending through the nozzle 46.
