Abstract

Organic substances, especially the vulcanization accelerators, vulcanization retarders, antioxidants, and pigments used in the production of rubber articles are prepared in the form of free-flowing pellets, granules or the like by mixing with an alkylated naphthalene sulphonic acid, a rubber latex and water-soluble polymer, e.g. gelatine, casein, a soluble cellulose derivative, polyvinyl methyl ether, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, sulphonated polystyrene, sodium polyacrylate, polyacrylamide, a hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile, a hydrolyzed polyarylic ester, and shaping the mixture. A substance which facilitates shaping of the pellets, e.g. dibutyl phthalate or propylene adipate, may be incorporated. The latex is exemplified by natural rubber latex and aqueous dispersions of substances obtained by the polymerization of a conjugated diolefine such as butadiene or the copolymerization of a conjugated diolefine with an ethylenically unsaturated compound such as acrylonitrile, styrene, an acrylic ester or a methacrylic ester. Examples are concerned with granulating dibenzthiazyl disulphide, N-cyclohexyl-benzthiazyl-2-sulphenamide, di-o-tolyguanidine, and tetramethylthiuram disulphide by preparing pastes with the sodium salt of dinaphthylmethane disulphonic acid, gelatine, sodium chloride solution, and a latex of a butadiene/methylmethacrylate (38 : 62) copolymer, extruding the paste through 1/6 in. diam. holes, drying the rods so formed, and breaking up the dried rods. Specification 684,125 is referred to.
