Abstract
850,305. Gas-blast switches. I-T-E CIRCUIT BREAKER CO. Feb. 7, 1958 [June 21, 1957], No. 4129/58. Class 38 (5). The recirculating gas-blast switch of Specification 833,559 is provided with a latch 100 to positively maintain the moving contacts 38 open should the gas pressure in the tank 11 fall. When the contacts are opened, pistons 37 cam the latch 100 upwardly and then pass beyond latch tips 104. Springs 105 and gas pressure acting on a piston 107 now move the latch down so that the tips 104 latch the pistons 37. To close the contacts, the outlet 34 from the space between the pistons to a low-pressure reservoir is closed, so that pressure is able to build up between the pistons. Also, the cylinder 106 containing the piston 107 is disconnected from the high pressure source and connected to the low pressure reservoir so that the piston 107 is moved upwardly to disengage the latch 100 from the pistons 37 which are then moved to the contacts closed position by closing springs 45.
