Abstract
855,309. Driving belts. CARLE, A. E. Feb. 7, 1958, No. 4105/58. Class 80 (1). In a belt transmission wherein an endless belt 60, Fig. 6, of reinforced rubber is provided both with a toothed surface engaging toothed driving and driven pulleys 61, 68, 69 and with a V-belt surface frictionally driving a grooved pulley such as 72, the belt teeth 50, Fig. 4, have their roots adjacent the reinforcement 52 and the V-belt surface has notches 58 opposite the teeth 50 to increase flexibility. The reinforcement may consist of nylon or rayon fabric or of wires, cords or glass fibres. The toothed and V-belt surfaces may have a fabric covering. The V-belt walls may converge or diverge outwardly, and when the diverge they may guide the belt between the tapered side walls of a toothed pulley. In a modification the teeth 40, Fig. 3, lie between the outwardly diverging or converging walls of the V-belt portion.
