Abstract
847,250. Spring clips; locking bolt-like pins; dowelling. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. March 28, 1958 [April 15, 1957], No. 12308/57. Classes 44, 89(1) and 89(2). A fastener-device for mounting in a hole 8 in a support 7 for engagement by a stud 10, includes a fastener-member comprising a hollow-body 1 of sheetmetal having means 3 at one end defining a stud-receiving-opening, the edges of which are shaped to receive and engage the stud, the body having at its other-end a series of resilient-fingers 6 extending axiallyoutwardly and inclined laterally-outwardly of the body, the device also including a tubular-insert 9 for insertion into the body of the fastenermember when the member is positioned in the hole in the support, to force the fingers into engagement with the wall of the hole. The means 3 consists of an inwardly-drawn-neck of reduceddiameter, and three slots are cut into the neck extending axially into an adjacent-part of the wall 2 of the body, so that the neck 3 has three portions capable of limited relative radialmovement. These portions co-operate to define the stud-receiving-opening, which has a diameter slightly less than that of the stud 10. The otherend of the body is formed with a series of slots 5 so as to provide the fingers 6, the free-ends of which are directed towards the outer-end of the body 1. The insert 9 is a sleeve having a diameter such that it makes a force-fit into the body to expand it radially-outwardly; the inner-end of the sleeve terminates short of the neck 3 and serves as a guide for the stud 10. Two such fastenerdevices can be used, one in each of two members which are to be secured together to grip oppositeends of a dowel-rod 10.
