Abstract
832,617. Nailing. ANSTALT FUR MONTAGE-TECKNIK. Jan. 31, 1956 [Jan. 31, 1955], No 3134/56. Class 89(3) A setting device for use in driving in pins, nails, studs &c., consisting of a tubular sleeve 1 and a dolly 2 guided therein and adapted to be struck on its outer end by a hammer to drive the pin, is provided at the workpiece engaging end of the sleeve with a holder comprising laterally movable jaws 4, 5 adapted to hold a deformable disc 19 having a perforation 20 of smaller diameter than the mean shaft diameter of the pin, the arrangement being such that in operation the disc 19 is deformed as the pin 15 is driven through the perforation 20 whereby the disc 19 grips both the pin and the holder to hold the setting device to the surface of the workpiece. The holder comprises a pair of radially movable jaws 4, 5 having arcuate recesses 18 which correspond in curvature to the edge of the disc 19 and which when the jaws are closed form continuations of the inner surface of the tubular sleeve I. The jaws have projections 23, 24 which pass under and support the disc 19. The final part of: the pin driving operation may be completed by sliding a ring 6 upwardly about outwardly bent upper limbs 9, 10 of the jaws 4, 5, causing the jaws to open at their lower ends so that the disc can be driven on to the workpiece. Alternatively the final part of the driving operation may be performed with the jaws 11, 12 closed so that the disc 19 is deformed at its edge as it passes through the jaws, the inner end 21 of the dolly 2 being of reduced diameter to facilitate this operation.
