Abstract

838,507. Batching articles for packaging. CRAWFORD & SONS Ltd., W. March 6, 1958 [Dec. 6, 1956], No. 37364/56. Class 94(1). Planar articles such as biscuits are arranged in batches by being fed forward continuously by known means 12 to a rotating worm device 13 which passes them, say two at the time, to its other side for accumulation against a spring- loaded support 17 in a cradle 61. When a desired number has collected, the worm ceases to rotate and flaps open at the base of the cradle to discharge the batch into a trough 24 of a conveyer 23 for taking them to a wrapping machine. Several lanes of biscuits may be batched simultaneously each by apparatus as described and the batches discharged into a single conveyer 23.
