[Also in Group XXVII] Silencing of air exhausted by the motor driven fan 20, Fig. 8. of a cylinder type vacuum cleaner through an opening 111 in the rear end cover 18 of the cleaner casing is effected firstly by a vertical baffle 23 having two outlets 103 (only one of which is shown) near the base thereof and secondly by vertical grooves 114, Fig. 6, formed by ribs 113 projecting inwardly from the cover 18 and up which air passes to the outlet 111.
