Abstract
818,544. Hydraulic machines. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Dec. 23, 1955 [Dec. 31, 1954], No. 36985/55. Class 69 (2). [Also in Group XVI] A driven member is cyclically operated to provide a forward stroke rapidly followed by a return stroke and a relatively long retracted dwell. The driven member may operate the print head of a wire printer. As shown in Fig. 1, a pump 47 supplies a motor comprising a piston assembly 59 through series-connected reversing valves 26, 27 actuated by cams 74, 75, respectively. Valves 26, 27 are actuated with a predetermined difference in phase. In the position shown liquid is supplied through a line 55 to hold the piston assembly in its retracted position. Valve 26 is moving to the right, and when a land 30 moves to the right of an inlet port 33 liquid is supplied through a line 56 to provide the forward stroke of the piston assembly. Valve 27 is moving to the left and when a land 36 moves to the left of a port 39 liquid is again supplied through line 55 to retract the piston assembly. Subsequent movement of valve 26 to the left, beyond its central position, again produces a forward stroke which is terminated when valve 27 re-crosses its central position. The piston assembly 59 comprises two free pistons 61 on opposite sides of an inturned extension 62 of a drive wire or rod 63. Fig. 8 shows a modification adapted to applications where a large quantity of liquid is required to drive the piston 59. Liquid is supplied to the motor through series-connected reversing valves 80, 81 which are reciprocated with the required difference in phase by liquid supplied through parallel-connected pilot valves 26, 27. The pilot valves 26, 27 are actuated by cams 74, 75. Specification 815,813, [Group XVI], is referred to.
