Abstract
806,441. Sifting apparatus. ROWNSON, DREW & CLYDESDALE, Ltd., and MARRIOTT, J. A. March 9, 1956 [Dec. 9, 1954], No. 35687/54. Class 117 [Also in Group XXX] In apparatus having one or more sieves 1, 2 supported by sets of inclined leaf springs 6, 8, the means connecting the sieves to the driving mechanism includes one or more hydraulic devices 41, 43, each of which comprises a piston and cylinder apparatus and valve means which permit the supply of presure fluid to, or the discharge of pressure fluid from, the cylinder so as to allow relative movement of the piston and cylinder when the thrusts tending to produce such relative movement exceed a certain value. The driving eccentrics 31, 33 are connected by rods 21, 23 to levers 11, 13 which are pivoted at one end to the sieves and at the other end to the cylinders of the hydraulic devices 41, 43. Each device 41, 43 comprises a piston 60, Fig. 4, working in a cylinder 61 filled with oil. A reservoir 64 for oil surrounds the cylinder 61. The piston 60 is carried by a rod 66 which is movable in a gland 65 forming a closure for the reservoir 64. The piston divides the cylinder 61 into chambers 67, 68, the volume of each of which is varied by movement of the piston. The transfer of fluid between the chambers 67, 68 and between the chamber 67 and the reservoir 64. is controlled by a number of spring-loaded non-return valves.
