Abstract

792,873. Knitting. LAUFER, H. June 28, 1955 [Feb. 21, 1955], No. 18693/55. Class 74 (2). A stocking is knitted on a two feeder double cylinder machine having a pattern drum at each feeder for effecting patterning, the welt 1 being knitted as a 1 x 1 rib fabric, the leg 2a being knitted in purl stitch and shaped by floating a loop control, and the high spliced heel 6 and foot sole 7 being knitted in purl stitch. The welt 1 is reinforced by knitting two yarns in each course, and a part 2 is knitted between the welt 1 and the leg proper 2a and comprises alternate courses knitted of a single yarn and intervening courses knitted of two yarns. This part 2 is knitted in purl stitch. In addition to shaping the leg 2a, false fashion marks 5 are inserted in the leg by floating, and a false seam 3 running from the welt to the heel is produced by knitting two wales at the back of the leg in plain stitch and this may be further enhanced by floating some of the course yarns in these wales.
