Abstract

794,270. Electric fires; light reflectors: reflectors and guards. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO.. Ltd. July 31, 1956 [Aug. 5, 19551, No. 22673/55. Classes 39(3). 75(2) and 126 A bowl like reflector comprises a part spherical reflecting surface, being the whole or a portion of that surface of a sphere cut off by the mouth of the reflector and by two planes lying on opposite sides of the centre of the sphere, these planes including lines parallel to the longitudinal axis of the reflector and being parallel to one another, or convergent in the direction from the mouth to the rear of the reflector, and the two substantially plane surfaces lying one in each plane and extending from the part-spherical surface to the mouth of the reflector. As shown, in an electric fire, a reflector 1 has an upper side 2 and a lower side 3. which are similar parallel plane segments of circles, and a base 4 which is part of the surface of a sphere whose centre C lies in front of the plane defined by the front edges of the sides 2 and 3 and the base 4. Within the reflector and :spaced from its rearmost part by a half to two thirds of the radius of the part sherical base 4 are two helically wound rod heating elements 7 which are parallel to the sides 2, 3 and spaced apart slightly less than one seventh of the distance between the sides. A U-shaped subsidiary reflector 6, which shields a terminal block 10, is mounted centrally within the reflector 1 behind the elements 7 and is supported by lugs which engage in slots in bars 28 mounted on the block 10. A terminal 12 and two terminals 13 support the ends of the elements 7, which are connected by a switch 14 to an incoming supply cable 16. A louvre guard 22 is pivotally mounted at the top of the -reflector and has equally spaced louvres 23 disposed parallel to the elements 7 and projecting upwardly from the mouth. The reflector is mounted on a stand comprising parts 18, 19, 20 and 21 so that the mouth of the reflector is inclined rearwardly at 15 degrees to the vertical. The switch 14 may be mounted within the reflector 1 behind the subsidiary reflector 6. Infra-red lamps, tubular flourescent lamps, or other sources of electromagnetic radiation may be used in conjunction with the reflector.
