Abstract
778,224. Stand-irons. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 22, 1955 [July 23, 1954], No. 21578/54. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XI] An electric flat-iron comprises an electric heater 2 of the sheathed wire type cast within an aluminium sole-plate 1, the underside of which is protected by a thin steel sheath 6 in the form of a shallow tray. The sole-plate may be cast under pressure and studs or other projections may be welded to or formed on the inside of the sheath to key into the casting. If the sole-plate is of an aluminium alloy which melts at a lower temperature than that of a normal alloy used in cast aluminium sole-plates, the steel sheath may be chromium plated before the aluminium is cast into it, the sheath being finally polished after casting of the sole-plate. The sheath may be of stainless steel or a nickel chrome iron alloy. Specification 733,981 is referred to.
