Abstract
The invention comprises a -amino-b -alkoxy-propionamides and hydrobromides and hydrochlorides thereof. These compounds are made by reacting an a -bromo-b -alkoxy-propionamide with ammonia, preferably at 70 DEG to 150 DEG C. and under pressure. In examples: (1) the reaction product obtained by brominating acrylamide is treated with sodium methoxide followed by reaction with ammonia at 90 DEG to 100 DEG C. under pressure to give a -amino-b -methoxypropionamide which is extracted with ethanol and converted to the hydrobromide; (2) the hydrobromide of (1) is converted to the corresponding hydrochloride; and (3) the hydrobromide of (1) is converted to the free base.
