Abstract
762,259. Articulated transporter carriages for use in mines; endless conveyers. HEIDEMANN, W. Oct. 5, 1954 [Oct. 7, 1953], No. 28686/54. Addition to 730,300. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (4). The conveyer 5, Figs. 3 and 4, forming the bottom of the transporter of the parent Specification can be slackened to reduce wear as the transporter articulates during travel. Further the inclined discharge section described in the parent Specification may be replaced by a separate inclined conveyer 7, Fig. 3. In the form illustrated the return roller 17, Fig. 4, at the loading end of the conveyer 5 is carried by brackets 21 mounted by rollers 18, 19 to slide in guides 20 and connected by a rope 22 to a single acting hydraulic ram 24. When a manually operated valve 31 is closed a gear pump 25 raises the pressure in the ram 24 to a level limited by a blow-off valve 30. The gear pump 25 may be driven, independently of the conveyer 5, from the same driving motor as the conveyer and the hydraulic circuit of the ram 24 may be interconnected with the controls for the conveyer 5 so that the latter cannot be driven while it is slack. Where the locomotive hauling the transporter is driven by compressed air the ram 24 may be pneumatic. The discharge conveyer 7, Fig. 3, is driven through a change-speed gear box 10 and a chain 9 which also drives the conveyer 5, the conveyer 7 being driven at a considerably higher speed than the conveyer 5. The upper end of the conveyer 7 may be moved both vertically and laterally. Where the discharge conveyer 7 is omitted so that the conveyer 5 delivers directly through the open end of the last carriage forming the transporter the tensioned roller may be at the discharge end of the conveyer. In one such construction, Fig. 9 (not shown), the ends of the tensioning roller are connected through chains which pass over sprockets arranged to ensure equal movements of the two chains to a yoke slid longitudinally of the transporter by a fluid pressure ram. A shield moving with the tensioning roller prevents material falling on to the track when the conveyer is slackened. In a further construction, Figs. 10 to 11a (not shown), the conveyer 5 is tensioned by a telescoping carriage inserted in the train and extended and retracted to tighten and slacken the conveyer by a doubleacting ram. The conveyer 5 may be an endless belt but preferably comprises a pair of chains joined by scrapers 33, Fig. 5, and running in trough sections 32 which are detachable from the carriages 4 and which may have flanges covering the upper runs of the chains. Rubber buffers 37 mount both the single axels 35 of the carriages and two-axle bogies supporting the loading and discharge sections. The conveyer 7 may beof similar construction to the conveyer 5 and may be tensioned by a spring-biased roller which may be slacked off. Alternatively it may comprise an endless belt.
