Abstract
769,950. Casting-processes. ELECTRIC STEEL FOUNDRY CO., [formerly ELECTRIC STEEL FOUNDRY]. April 19, 1955 [July 2, 1954], No. 11306/55. Class 83 (1). In a centrifugal-casting process, an annular moulding-core having a radial recess is mounted in the mould and spaced from one end thereof, the molten-metal is poured into a reservoir at said one end and restrained therein until the metal has attained the peripheral speed of the mould, and is thereafter released from the reservoir to flow longitudinally of the mould in a thin annular stream along the inside diameter of the core. The mould 10 comprises an annular-core 18, a control-core 19 having openings 21 therein, and a number of moulding- cores 22 having radial recesses or mouldcavities 25. The openings 21 are preferably inclined at an angle of up to 45 degrees from the horizontal, or a central opening 23 serves as a gas-vent. A ring 20 adjacent the core 19 is preferably of hard sand or other erosionresistant material. In operation, the core 19 restrains flow of metal from the reservoir 34 until the depth covers the openings 21. The metal then advances along the cores 22, filling each mould-cavity in turn, a string of castings connected by an annular runner being thereby produced.
