Class 86 [Also in Group V] A pug extruder, used for example in extruding material through a die in the manufacture of bricks, has a worm 1 the core cylinder 10 of which has its forward end contoured to form a propellent surface, which is obtained by reducing the diameter of the cylinder gradually in a forward direction along axial planes commencing about at the place where the forward end of the worm thread is situated and continuing about to an axial plane offset 180 degrees with respect to said place, the rate of reduction increasing from said place to the last named plane.
