Abstract
A cast molybdenum-base alloy consists of at least 70 per cent Mo, or Mo and W with the percentage of Mo exceeding that of W and either Ti 0,25-14 per cent or Zr 0,1-2 per cent. One or more of the following may also be present in the alloy: Ni 0-0,4 per cent; Fe 0-1,3 per cnet; Co 0-0,9 per cent; Cr 0-2 per cent; Th 0,01-0,5 per cent. O2 up to 0,005 per cent may be present in the alloy if C 0,01-0,25 per cent is present and O2 up to 0,05 per cent and C up to 0,06 per cent may be present in the alloy if Al in amount sufficient to react with all the O2 present but not exceeding 0,4 per cent or Be in amount sufficient to react with all the O2 present but not exceeding 0,03 per cent are added. The maxima of the Al and Be ranges may be increased to 2,5 per cent and 0,25 per cent respectively provided that the amount of Al in excess of 0,4 per cent and Be in excess of 0,03 per cent actually added is decreased as the amount of Ni, Fe, Co, Cr and W present approaches its upper limit. The alloy is preferably made by forming powdered constituents into a consumable electrode (see Group XXII) and arc-melting in vacuo or, if volatile constituents are present, in an inert atmosphere under a small pressure. Specifications 27710/10 [Class 82], 652,491, 656,796 741,359, and 741,360, [Group XXII], are referred to.
