Abstract

4 - {3 - [a - (3 : 5 - Dicarboxyphenoxy) - acetamido]-benzoyl}-6-n-hexylresorcinol (sodium salt) is prepared by hydrolysing with alcoholic caustic soda 4-{3-[a -(3 : 5-dicarbomethoxyphenoxy) - acetamido] - benzoyl} - 6 - n - hexylresorcinol, itself prepared by reacting 4-(3-aminobenzoyl) - 6 - n - hexylresorcinol with a - (3 : 5-dicarbomethoxyphenoxy) - acetyl chloride in acetonitrile. 4 - {3 - [a - (3 : 5 - Dicarboxyphenoxy) - acetamido] - benzoyl} - 6 - n - dodecylresorcinol (sodium salt) and the corresponding dimethyl ester, and 4-[3-(3-sulphobenzamido)-benzoyl]-6-n-hexylresorcinol (sodium salt) are similarly prepared. 4 - (3 - Aminobenzoyl) - 6 - n - hexylresorcinol is prepared by reducing with hydrogen in the presence of Raney nickel 4-(3-nitrobenzoyl)-6-n-hexyl-resorcinol, itself prepared by condensing 4 - n - hexylresorcinol with 1 - cyano - 3 - nitrobenzene. a - (3 : 5 - Dicarbomethoxyphenoxy) - acetyl chloride is prepared by condensing dimethyl 5-hydroxyisophthalate with sodium chloracetate in presence of sodium methoxide. 4 - [3 - (3 - Chlorosulphonylbenzamido) - benzoyl]-6-n-hexylresorcinol is prepared by condensing 4-(3-aminobenzoyl)-6-n-hexylresorcinol with 3-chlorosulphonybenzoyl chloride.
