In a joint in which the flared ends 2 of aligned pipes 4, 5 are clamped between opposed conical faces of a fitting 1 and of nuts 8 screwing on to the fitting, the screw-threaded parts of the fitting or of the nuts are slightly tapered so as to cause the nuts to bind on the fitting. A shoulder 13 is provided between the screw threads on the fitting.
