Abstract
744,856. Gas turbine rotors. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS. Ltd. June 21, 1954 [July 11, 1953], No. 19298/53. Class 110(3) In a gas turbine engine in which blades are mounted in the turbine rotor disc by means of fir-tree type roots, side cheeks are provided to form air chambers at the sides of the disc. Cooling air is supplied to the chambers which are closed in the radially-outward direction by the side cheeks. The rotor disc 12 is provided with two annular side cheeks 19, 20 which form annular air chambers 30 at each side of the disc. One cheek 19 is formed integrally with a diaphragm-like member 14 which is spaced from the disc 12 to form an annular air supply passage 17 to which air is supplied from a passage 16 around the shaft. The diaphragm 14 is formed with spaced bosses 26 which contact the rotor disc. The cheek plate 20 is also formed with bosses 27 and the diaphragm 14 and cheeks. 19 and 20 are connected to the rotor disc by means of bolts 29 passing through holes in the bosses 26, 27 and in the disc. Cooling air supplied through the passage 17 passes through radial passages 32 between the bosses 26 to the air chamber 30. Some of the air passing through the passages 32 passes through holes 33 in the rotor disc to radial passages 34 between the bosses 27 and so to the air chamber 30 on the other side of the disc. The outer edges of the cheek plates 19, 20 engage the sides of the rotor disc and the ends of the blade roots, thereby closing the air chambers and also preventing endwise movement of the blades.
