Abstract
720,132. Linear-dimension gauges. CAPP & SON, Ltd., A., and CAPP, A. Aug. 6, 1953 [Oct. 28, 1952], No. 27074/52. Class 106 (2). A dial gauge, Fig. 3, for measuring variations in the height or depth of a surface comprises a pivoted feeler 4 the deflections of which are transmitted to a coaxially pivoted lever 1 having an extension 1<1> Fig. 4, at its free end, the extension 1<1> being engaged between adjacent turns of a helix 5 fitted tightly on a shaft 6 of an indicator needle. The helix 5 may be of piano wire. Oscillatory movement of the lever 1 produces corresponding rotation of the helix 5 and of the shaft 6. A clip 15 allows easy replacement or adjustment of the feeler member 4 which is friction held against the lever 1. A spring 10 is adapted to press the lever 1 either upwards or downwards according to whether an upper or lower surface is to be tested. Specification 468,243 is referred to.
