Abstract
727,662. Fusible cut-outs. ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION, Ltd. Nov. 21, 1952 [Dec. 13, 1951], No. 29233/51. Class 38 (1). A cartridge fuse comprises silver strips a having lengths h of reduced cross-section. A fuse element is formed of (as shown) three strips a, the number of strips depending, however, on the size of fuse, 24 being employed for a 300 amp. fuse. The strips are wound helically round a star-shaped core b, the lengths h being in register with one another so that the arc currents will not jump from one strip to another, so that three relatively weak arc currents in parallel are,obtained. The strips a are held by metal fingers e attached to a terminal cap d, and the fuse element is housed in a body c filled with a mixture of powdered quartz and marble of grain size between 60-100 meshes to the inch. The relatively long portions of reduced cross-section of each strip are stated to allow immediate extinguishing of the arc both at high and at low overload currents.
